Supplemental Certification
Master reading teacher
Master Reading Teacher certification allows a teacher to serve as a master trainer for the certified reading teachers in their school. Districts offer salary stipends to teachers in this role.
Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi offers two methods for earning Master Reading Teacher certification:
- If you already hold the Reading Specialist professional certificate, you will take nine semester hours of prescribed graduate courses in reading. You do not need to take a state licensing exam. Instead, you will apply directly to the State of Texas for your certificate.
- If you do not hold the Reading Specialist professional certificate, you will take 12 semester hours of prescribed graduate courses in reading. You must also pass TExES test #85 to earn your certificate.
