Teacher Certification
Course requirements
To earn initial teacher certification, you must demonstrate your proficiency in two categories: the content area (the field in which you'll be teaching) and the professional education area (the practice of teaching itself). If you are seeking certification as an undergraduate student, you also need to meet all of the degree requirements and core courses of your major.
Content Area
Depending on the certification you seek, your major may be based in either TAMUCC's College of Education, College of Liberal Arts, or College of Science and Technology. The chart below groups certification options by the college offering a corresponding major. Click on the name of the college to access the course catalog, where you can look up your specific program's requirements (regardless of whether you are an undergraduate or graduate level student, these requirements are listed in the undergraduate catalog).
(Remember to check with your academic advisor for help declaring a major, changing majors, forming a degree plan, or determining which courses you need to complete.)
